Use the ZPedal. You can put it anywhere in the chain you like. Just assign volume to an axis.

There is much information about getting good tone at http://www.thegearpage.net/board/forumdisplay.php?f=53

I recommend that you read some of the Zoom related threads there or create your own account (free) and ask questions.

joints on Z pedal is it easy to take apart to clean,
cheers john

ashbass reply:
Sorry, but I haven't needed to get inside the zpedal to know. I think that it can be easily removed from the g5 but don't know about dissecting it further.

my g5 doesnt show pedal vox,cry in the last box as u have shown inn the figure,i can select only z pedal as a volume ,granular.......and if i put the pedal vox and cry in other box i think it doesnt sound as it shuld be...plz help me :(

ashbass reply:
I'm not sure what you mean. If you explore the Z pedal you will not see any wah effects. You must select a wah in one of the eight slots and then select Custom for the Z pedal. Now you can assign functions of the wah to the various Z pedal movements.

I recently got a G3 and would really like to do some mods to simplify changing patch. I want the display to be in effect select mode so I can see which patches are on and turn effects on and off.

I then want switches to scroll up and down through patches. I also want switches to scroll left and right to see additional effects. I don't really need tap but a rhythm switch would be nice for practice (I don't use it on stage)

Bank selection, while a nice feature to have, only works when the display is in patch selection mode so this is not possible as I understand it.

Most of the problem seems to revolve around the tap switch. This needs to be down before patch select will take place.

Building a delay circuit to 'make' the tap switch before patch selection is quite complex and requires adding power and lots of wires. Wiring a toggle or latching switch as in one of your mods means having to remember in which position it currently is in, change it if necessary before tapping an up/left or down/right switch.

Would it be possible to wire the tap normally closed but to break it when pressing the scroll switches? I guess I would need double poll stomp switches that have a normally open switch and a normally closed switch. Does such a thing exist in a stomp switch? Any other suggestion?

Another problem is drilling holes as this devalues the pedal. Is there any way of feeding a cable out through the R Output socket?

ashbass reply:
You can get around the Tap Being Down problem by using a switch that lets you have tap held down all the time.

For example, get a normally closed SPST switch and wire tap to it, or a DPDT switch and wire tap to the two lugs that are active automatically. By default then, the Tap button is pressed. So, the patch down/up switches will work as Patch Select instead of Scroll. The new tap switch will set tempo when the switch is released rather than when the switch is pressed. You won't know the difference when using the tap switch. To get Scroll as well, you'll need to use the G3 three footswitches and wire them to your external box. Instructions are in the mod pages of this site.

Hi Mr,

My question is...can i do all the mods with spst pushbuttons??

Thanks

ashbass reply:
No. Using only SPST switches:
The G5 can do all the mods except for Bank Down/Up
The G3/X can do Tap and Rhythm but only Patch or Scroll and no Bank
The B3 can do all the mods except for Bank

Hi, sorry if I never answered this. Try disconnecting the plugs for the patch select external box from the G3. Do the top row buttons work now? If yes, then problem is likely with wiring in the plugs that plug into the G3 or the enclosure with your switches. It's probably a ground issue where some wire that is not supposed to be connected to a ground *is* connected to a ground. To find out which wire(s) is the problem you have to systematically remove them from the circuit and then test the circuit until the top row buttons do not turn off.

Hey ashbass, Thanks for this great store of information. I had been Googling for tips on playing an acoustic guitar through my G5 yesterday when I ran across this site. I have already made BIG changes to my patches, for example, reordering effects. What a huge improvement. I have also been using a very small subset of the available effects, filters, etc., but with this information, I have ventured out into a whole other world of possible sounds.

I downloaded your Effecturator utility and it is really coming in handy. Just saying thanks for all of the hard work you put into this.

Rich
