Let me try here since e mail attempts have failed.. ;o)

Hi Ashbass...I did the Patch Select mod for my V2.1 G3X....

The scroll side of it works fine...

When I hit the toggle switch and hit one of the stomp switches, the unit just continues to scroll up and down through the patches..

On your stomp switches you show two white wires...I'm confused as to what those 2 wires are? Which one of those wires is the black/white(Tap) wire?

My switches and wiring are identical to your's.

Basically I just can't seem to get tap(in and out) part of the circuit figured out?

That lower left wire that you show on the stomp switch goes over to the 3.5mm jack and connects where?

Looking at your photo and my enclosure sitting the same way I have the following..

Left stomp switch...Upper terminal...Patch up...Lower....Tap and a wire to the left upper toggle switch.

Right stomp switch...Upper terminal...Patch Down....Lower...Common

That 5th wire that comes off of the left stomp switch and up to the jack goes where?

Hi Ashley, I have just found your site through Google and YouTube and love your Mod ideas and expertise. I have owned a Zoom G5 for 2 years now and still learning how to use it. One thing I cannot find to do is to remove or replace a module with the Z Pedal? I always create my own patches from pre-existing set-ups and as some already have Z Pedal modules and when scrolling through options all you get are variations of other Z Pedal configurations - do you have any advice on how to remove or change to basic modules in any particular patch?
Thanks in advance.

ashbass reply:
IIRC there is a module in the z pedal called Custom. Use that to pick and choose what effects you want the z to control. The z can control different aspects of different pedals all in the one Custom module even.

Hello!

I just busted one of the LCD screens on my Zoom G5. I opened a thread on TGP asking for information on how to fix this, but there are have been no replies.

Would you be able to help with some information? Like where do I get spare parts for the G5, i.e. a new LCD screen. How would I use it to replace the broken one?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

ashbass reply:
Sorry but I don't know if replacement parts are available. There is a link to "Email Zoom" in the general section of the zoom page. That will go to Zoom customer service. You could try that.

Hi Ash,
I got myself a G5 last week and have been loving your mods and tips. I'll be making an 'All Mods' mod myself in the next week or so and have a couple of questions which you may be able to help with.

a.) I was thinking to add two extra switches to the mod. One to do the same job as the Z-Pedal footswitch so its easier to use the custom mode to turn on or off an effect that isnt shown on a screen. Is this as simple as the others? I can't see why not.

b.) Instead of doing the Y-Split mod I thought about adding another switch and wiring it inside the case leaving just the control port for the expression pedal. Again can you think of any problems with this?

Finally I have been using Efffectuator2000 on my Mac using 'Winebottler'. Do you want me to send it over for hosting so others can use it?

Cheers
Andrew

ashbass reply:
a) z-pedal external switch: simple in concept but not in application. There are two solder spots for the zpedal just like for the other button/switches the mods use. What is difficult is getting to those two spots. There is a small circuit board that accepts input from the z switch. Look at my "Z-Pedal Switch" mod to see what you are up against. Your idea will work. You just have to get in there.
b) no problems that I can think of other than the same problems that come with the y adapter. Your new wires inside the pedal will connect to the same wires as the control in jack.
c) sure send me what all you used on the mac to work The Effecturator 2000. I've had a few requests for a mac version before. Provide all necessary info as I have no mac experience.

Hi Ash.

1. I found your excellent website while searching for some info about the Zoom G3. I'm going to stop searching and ask you, because if anyone would know, you would -

When using the G3 as a recording interface, does it do just one A/D conversion, or did they stick a cheap usb interface on the analog output?

2. I recently picked up a G1on because I needed a cheap harmonizer (but I like the Fender amp models in it so much, I'm considering a G3 as a guitar recording interface). I did a bunch of frequency response plots on the cab and amp simulations. Would you like to have them? Post them to your site?

Thanks!

Jon

ashbass reply:
Hey Jon, sure I'll post them on the site. Tell me where to put them though as what you are talking about is over my head. I can say that the G3&5 records via a usb port. There is no information about recording in the manual. You should check out thegearpage.net and their 'Digital & Modeling Gear' forum. Still some G3&5 action there.

Hi Ash - great work you have done and so helpful.
I was trying to use The Effecturator on a Zoom B3 to turn all cabs off - but it doesn't give that option in the drop down box..only ORGN#x##. I noticed the B3 has an additional setting in the amp tab: "Mix", which has to be set to zero to turn off the cab I believe. Are you planning to alter the Zoom B3 latest firmware update so that we cab have the turn cabs off mod?
Many thanks
Regards Keith

ashbass reply:
I've never owned a B3 and the settings you'll find in the Effecturator are based on what the Edit & Share software supplies. As you noted, there is no "no cab" setting for the B3 amps although you can turn Mix to zero to get the same effect (I trust your view on this as I cannot experiment). Without a B3 to test with, I cannot make a firmware update for the pedal. Although based on what you've said it would just be a matter of changing every amp's Mix setting to zero.

Hi

I am looking for a Zoom MS-50G mod, and I will pay you for your time and help if you can do it. We can use the escrow at freelancer.com.

I am looking to use an external footswitch to turn the zoom off, and to turn on multiple effects pedals, and then turn these effect pedals back off and the zoom back on. To turn the zoom off, you need to navigate to one of the 'empty' patches, rather than cutting the power to the zoom.

Let me know what you think,

Best regards,

Chris.

Hi Ash
A fantastic informative site…brilliant work on your part!!!
Just wondering if you’ve come across (or have a solution) this G3x problem?
I bought a new G3x from a music store and have literally only used it a few times (I’m predominantly an acoustic player, but use the G3X for occasional electric guitar work when required). I was just outside the 12 month warranty period when the central LCD panel suddenly faded out during a performance I was doing (barely visible). The problem appears to be intermittent, which doesn’t allow for much faith in the reliability of the pedal for live performances. I contacted the music store, but unfortunately without positive result or outcome. They will not take responsibility for the defective hardware! The pedal is in the same condition as the day I received it i.e. brand new item and still kept in the original box when not being used. You help or advice with regard to this matter would be greatly appreciated! Many thanks in advance.

ashbass reply:
I've only heard of one other user who lost their panels. Two of them. I don't have any ideas for you. You could open it up and look for loose connections around the panel but since the problem is not always you'd be shooting in the dark IMO.

I'm thinking about replacing the tube in my zoom G5. but I don't know what's the size or diameter of the tube in it... can anyone help me? thanks :)

ashbass reply:
The tube that is in the pedal is a 12AX7. Any 12AX7 tube will fit and work. I'm sure that other tubes have the same size and pin layout so that they might fit into the G5 but I don't know that using one would work. If you want to experiment with tubes you should stick to the 12AX7 tube as produced by various makers.

So first off, awesome work. I've been looking everywhere for this kind of info. I'm not sure if I missed this, but I'd like to do a full mod and I want to directly control the patch selectors independently (as opposed to patch up/down). Do you have this covered somewhere? What I'm trying to do is spread out the selectors into more "stomp-box" style pedals, as well as adding bank up-down pedals. Thanks! Keep up the great work.

ashbass reply:
I don't think that I understand what you want re patch selection. The pedal already has separate up/down switches and any of my mods just moves the two switches into a separate enclosure. If you want individual on/off switches for each model, like you would on a pedal board, the zoom pedal already does that too, in patch mode. Getting bank down/up to work consistently is a hassle. I finally gave up on it and used the switches on my enclosure for other things.
