Hello, would it be possible in your opinion to replace a broken flat display cable in a Zoom G3X? Is it simple or it needs soldering on one side? What kind of cable is it?
Thanks!

ashbass reply:
Do you mean flat *LCD Panel* ? The display panels are not soldered to anything. They sit in a slot made for them. I do not know of anyone ever getting a replacement LCD Panel from Zoom or anywhere else. Sorry to say.

Ash,

I must say, love your videos, they have been almost critical in my decision making process (related to Zoom G5). In January Zoom released the G5n, any ideas?

Back to the point, I noticed the Patch/Bank ext. pedal. Looked the "Internet World" over for this as a Zoom Product. Then, went to your web page, surprisingly, I found out that you fabricated these pedals yourself. Color me super impressed, not only, do they preform the most critical functions that I have wished Zoom had created for years, but, they also are Graphically/aesthetically pleasing to look at. KUDO's my hero!!!

Maybe you should create these as customized mods for Zoom Pedal owners. Brilliant.

And thank you for your attention to detail & taking the time to share with the rest of us :)

John

ashbass reply:
Thank you for the kind words, John. There is a lot of discussion about the G5n pedal on thegearpage.net. Some praise it as it is supposed to have better amp models. Others put it down as it has less features, and less models, than the G5. IMO the G5n is definitely not an upgraded G5. At best it might be considered an upgraded G1Xon. Interestingly Zoom used my switching idea for the switching of patches in their new pedal. A toggle switch to switch between another two switches acting as Bank Up/Down or Scroll Left/Right. In that respect Zoom has incorporated my ideas into their product. Too bad the pedal didn't stand on the shoulders of the G5. I know that is what a lot of G3 and G5 owners want. I do.

Hi, great page, thanks for providing all this information. I happen to have an old FS01 footswitch from a previous pedal. Can it be used for anything useful? It would be really nice, for example, to be able to start and stop the rhythm track while using the looper.

But really, any useful function would be nice to explore, as this expensive pedal is currently gathering dust.

ashbass reply:
The switch will work. Depending on your pedal (G5, G3) it can do different things. Your best bet is to run the Edit&Share software and look to the right of a patch's effects list for the CTRL SW item and right click it. You will get a list of what the switch can control in that patch.

Hi my Zoom g5 has sound from only one chanel when tube boost is on but both chanels when off could it be the tube i did replace it a short time ago any idea's Cheers

ashbass reply:
When you replaced the tube there are two little trim pots next to the tube. These are white plastic with + signs in them. You turn the + signs with a little screwdriver to adjust the left/right outputs. Maybe experiment with that.

Great site, I may try the hardware mods someday but I was wondering if you have tried mixing other external stomps with the G5? I ask because I cannot seem to get a decent sound adding a vintage Morley power wah\volume pedal either before or after the G5, any tips?

ashbass reply:
I have a Distortion Plus and a Rat in front of the G5 with no problems. You can try putting your Morley pedal plugged into the Contol jack on the back of the G5 instead of in series coming out of the Output jack to your amp. The control jack only controls output volume as far as I know so I'm not sure if the wah part of your pedal will work.

Hi Ash,

I downloaded the effecturator 2000 on my WIN10 laptop, but when I open a patch group the amp, reverb and other lists are just blank. I tried several compatibility modes, but the problem remains.

The only thing I managed to do was to change the patch group global volume level, and it worked with no issue whatsoever.

Also, I use a G5 updated to the latest firmware version.

Can you please help me?

ashbass reply:
I can recreate your problem by having only the Effecturator2000.exe file in a folder. The Effecturator 2000 also needs the Effecturator2000.ini file that is included in the zip file. That second file holds all of the drive, amp, and reverb settings. Make sure that both files are present when you launch The Effecturator 2000.

My LCD display on ZOOM G5 was broken (Part Number: SMMC12864-EA-01-SPC).

I'd like to buy only display. Where can I get that?

Thanks all for advice!

ashbass reply:
What you want is not possible as far as I know.

No. It is not possible to use a pedal's firmware to update a different pedal. Sorry to say.
