The Smooth Swell Mod
Many AX1500 and AX1000 owners complain about the Expression Pedal and its cramped and sensitive sweep. It turns out that you can soften the taper of the sweep to make your volume swells smoother and your wah-wah more expressive.
If you'd like me to mod your pedal for you, visit the Guitar Store.
-
PARTS: You'll need a screwdriver, a 220k-ohm resitor, a soldering iron, and some solder.
-
Open your pedal by taking out the six screws on the bottom. Remove the bottom cover and put it off to one side.
-
Locate the set of three solder-points that are used to connect the Expression Pedal to the main circuit board.
-
Solder the two legs of the 220k-ohm resistor to the outer two solder-points as shown.
-
Close it all back up.
You should notice a improved smoothness of volume swell when using the volume pedal and increased expression when using the wah pedal.
To experiment with the resistor on and off to see if you can hear a difference, solder some long wires to the two solder-points detailed in step 4 and let them hang outside of the AX unit so that you can temporarily clip the resistor on and off while you play. If you like the change, replace the two wires with just the resistor. If you don't like it, just remove the two wires.
