Zoom G5 Z-Pedal Adjustment
Comments

Out of the box, the switch underneath the zpedal was difficult to activate. I had to lean out over the top of the G5 to get my weight behind me when pressing toe-down. With the leaning, the front of the G5 would rock up off the floor. That was no good. The switch needed to be higher so that the pedal would press it sooner.

On most effect pedals that have a switch, you can adjust the switch's height by moving the nuts on its threaded shaft. I figured the same should apply for the zpedal. I opened up the G5 and took a look at what I could do to raise the switch. Not much. It's a funky switch and there is really no room for adjustment.

My next thought was to replace the switch with another switch that would allow adjustment of its height. It was a hassle getting the stock switch out. I had to bend back a layer of metal to get to it. It was a bigger hassle getting the new switch in.

You can see in the image below the little circuit board that used to sit underneath the original switch. So the original switch really isn't a switch at all. It's just a plunger that presses the little circuit board switch when it is pressed.

Still not satisfied, I solved my problem from a different angle. Here's what I should have done in the first place.

Superglue two nuts together.

And then superglue the stack to the top of the switch.

The result is not elegant, but it works a treat. Now I can activate the switch easily.

You'll need to experiment with putting things of different heights on the top of the switch. Two nuts worked for me. You might need only one, or maybe three, or maybe you don't want to use nuts at all and you find something else to put on the top of the switch. If it works, use it.

Cheers.
